Shepherds' Play Performance

Annual Shepherds' Play to be Performed in Peterborough

Now in its 14th year, the Shepherds' Play will be performed again at the Union Congregational Church in Peterborough, 33 Concord Street. The play is an abridged version of the Oberufer “Shepherds' Play,” a medieval mystery play. What makes this rendition so unique is its cast. All of the performers are adults with developmental challenges from lifesharing communities of the region, including Plowshare Farm of Greenfield, Four Winds of Wilton and Tobias of Temple.

The play depicts the tale of simple shepherds coming together and leaving their flocks on a cold and dark night to follow a bright star, which leads them to a warm stable filled with wonder and faith. The audience is encouraged to participate in a sing-along which occurs between scenes and tells of the story to come.

This heartfelt performance began as an in-house production following the Monday evening church supper, however, it has now grown to a community event, drawing a full house. This year’s performances will take place on Monday, December 12th and Friday, December 16th at 7:00pm. Admission is free. For more information call 547-2547.

Come experience the magic of the season.
